Disney’s Galactic Starcruiser Still A Priority Despite Financial Woes
Earlier today, we here at MickeyBlog shared with you that the newest cruise ship in Disney Cruise Line’s fleet the Disney Wish, will be launching a bit later due to COVID-related delays. This information came from the Bank of America Virtual Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference on Thursday where Disney’s financial chief gave a report on the company’s projects going forward. In addition to the Cruise LIne news Christine McCarthy actually had some really great news for Star Wars fans.
Though the COVID-19 shutdown and the loss of income has resulted in some projects being axed (like the Mary Poppins attraction in EPCOT and the Spaceship Earth refurb) one that is still going full steam ahead is the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel experience.
According to a recent piece in the Orlando Sentinel, Jessica Reif Cohen who was conducting the interview asked McCarthy, ““When we think about the next three years, have your investment plans for new rides and attractions meaningfully changed?” McCarthy replied, “We’ve really prioritized some of our investment spending.” She continued, “The ones that we’re really focused on are things like the Star Wars hotel that we’ve discussed publicly that will be in Walt Disney World. That’s a priority.”
Other prioritized projects include the Avengers Campus coming to Disneyland as well as Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway which is coming to Toontown.
For those unfamiliar, Disney announced last year that it was opening a hotel called the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser slated to open in 2021. Disney is selling this as a fully immersive 2-night Star Wars experience designed to give guests the feeling that they are spending the night in outer space and will feature unique storylines woven through your stay!
As of going to print Disney hasn’t said whether or not plans to officially open the Starcruiser have been pushed back. During our recent visits to Walt Disney World we have shared images with you of construction continuing to be carried out in the are. You can check out the latest photos here.
This is a story that we here at MickeyBlog will continue to follow closely. Readers are encouraged to keep checking in with us for the latest Walt Disney World news and updates!
