New Olaf Short “Once Upon a Snowman” is Coming to Disney+
We’ve got a special treat for all you Frozen fans! In case you missed it beloved actor Josh Gad hosted Jimmy Kimmel LIVE yesterday where during his beginning monologue he had a very special announcement about a new short coming to Disney’s streaming network this Fall!
Called “Once Upon A Snowman,” the short which will air on October 23rd explores what happened to Olaf within the moments after Elsa created him as she was “letting it go” and building her ice palace. As What’s On Disney+ tell us, we’ll delve into the origins of Olaf, the innocent and insightful, summer-loving snowman who melted hearts in the Oscar-winning 2013 Disney blockbuster along with its 2019 acclaimed sequel. You’ll witness Olaf’s first steps as he comes to life and searches for his identity on the snow outskirts of Arendelle.
The short will be directed by Trent Correy (animation supervisor for Olaf on Frozen 2) and Dan Abraham who was storyboard artist for Olaf’s “When I Am Older” the beloved musical sequence from Frozen 2. It will be produced by Nicole Hearon (associate producer for Frozen 2 and Moana) along with Vecho (producer Frozen 2, Frozen and Raya and the Last Dragon. Josh Gad, of course, returns to voice the character!
Director Trent Correy said of the project, “This is an idea that started to form when I was an animator on the first Frozen.” He continues” “Dan Abraham and I are so grateful and excited to have had the opportunity to direct this short, working with our incredible colleagues at Walt Disney Animation Studios.”
Dan Abraham had this to say of Gad’s involvement, “Josh Gad gives one of the great animated voice performances as Olaf through the ‘Frozen’ films.” He adds, “To have the opportunity to work with him in the recording booth was such a privilege and career highlight.”
