Disney World Axes Holiday-themed Castle Dream Lights As Part Of Scaled Down Xmas 2020 Celebration
Disney World announced today that their 2020 Holiday Season will officially kick off on November 6, 2020 and run through Until December 30th. As many would expect, this year activities across the parks, resorts and Disney Springs will be a more scaled down version of year’s past to ensure social distancing in during the pandemic.
As we previously announced here at MickeyBlog, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is being cancelled for this year as is the EPCOT international Festival of the Holidays (with mainstay the Candlelight Processional.) Santa Claus will be popping-up rather than having meet and greets with guests and the gingerbread houses at the resort are on hiatus.
In addition, the Magic Kingdom will not be offering the Castle Dream Lights castle lighting that used to happen each Yuletide Season at the parks.
For those unfamiliar, here’s what this has looked like in years past:
In an official statement released today, Disney said that castle projects will be used to give a festive look to Cinderella Castle. This will provide a colorful backdrop for your festive visit but is in lieu of the more traditional castle lighting show in the video above. According to the statement there will be a rotating series of designs including a Christmas sweater theme as well as a red, green and gold ornament theme.
This seems like a smart decision given that Frozen-themed castle lighting ceremonies aren’t really conducive to keep guests socially distanced throughout the holiday period. Making it less of an organized event and more of an ongoing projection happening throughout the evening hours will undoubtedly minimize traffic to the area while still providing a need special effect.
We’ll miss all of those dazzling icicle details and watching Elsa using her magical ice powers we 100% get the logic behind it! This is a time of BIG changes in terms of how Disney World celebrates the holidays but continue following along with MickeyBlog and we promise to keep you straight! And for those that missed it, here are some of the other details regarding this year’s Holiday Celebrations at Disney World:
