Lars Ulrich From Metallica Talks About Working On ‘Jungle Cruise’ Film
In case you haven’t noticed Disney has been totally rocking out lately! First, in Onward you have the character of Barley (voiced by Chris Pratt) who is a Dungeons and Dragons playing metalhead named Barley. Then we find out Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nail worked on the soundtrack for Pixar’s upcoming release Soul. And then today, we’re getting word that Metallica is working on a version of ‘Nothing Else Matters’ that will appear in the live action version with Jungle Cruise.
All we can say is “For those about to rock (at Disney) we salute you!”
According to a recent piece in Collider Lars Ulrich, the infamous drummer for Metallica offered his thoughts on collaborating with Jungle Cruise composer James Newton Howard. Though the idea of working on a Disney film is undoubtedly unexpected Ulrich said, “It really goes back to [Disney production president] Sean Bailey, who is a lifelong rock fan, and is just all-around one of the greatest, most friendly, generous, warm, and embracing people you’ll find in the music business,” said Ulrich. “I think he’s always been a Metallica fan, and we’ve gotten to know each other well. My wife and I are big Disney fans, so there’s a great friendship there, and he’s always looked for the right match where there was a way that Metallica could contribute to some project of theirs. This was the right fit, with Sean leading the cavalry, and with James Newton Howard and his track record, and what he’s done.”
For those unfamiliar Howard is an 8-time Oscar nominee and his previous works include films like The Fugitive, Michael Clayton and The Village. For Disney Howard has worked on films including Dinosaur, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Maleficent and Nutcracker and the Four Realms.
Ulrich said the change to work with the composer was a bit draw for Ulrich who is a huge film buff, “James Newton Howard, the man, the myth, the absolute legend! Considering what’s he’s done, it’s an absolute honor to have done this with him, and we’re excited for the world to hear it. It’s kind of an interesting morph, because it’s kind of — and I don’t want to give too much of it away — but it’s a very unusual morph in that it’s kind of his arrangement of “Nothing Else Matters” that we’re playing. We wrote the song, but he took the song and rearranged it to fit something specific in the film — and obviously, I’m not going to give any of that away — but we then kind of took on his version of it. I think that’s all that should be said,”said Ulrich.
Jungle Cruise is one in a list of upcoming live-action projects that Disney is churning out over the next few years. Emily Blunt and Dwayne the Rock Johnson team up to uncover and ancient tree with special healing abilities which can be found in the far recesses of the Amazon rainforest. The film was originally supposed to come out this Summer but has since been pushed back to July 30, 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film also stars, Edgar Ramirez, Jesse Plemons, Jack Whitehall and Paul Giamatti. Readers are encouraged to keep following along with MickeyBlog for the latest Walt Disney World news and updates!
