Disney Chairman, Josh D’Amaro Talks Disneyland Reopening, Pandemic Impact, and Future of Disney in New Interview
Josh D’Amaro; Disney Parks, Experience and Products Chairman; recently sat down for an interview with Roger Dow of “The Dow Report” to give an update on Disneyland reopening, the lasting impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the future of Disney. “The Dow Report” is hosted by Dow who is the President of the U.S. Travel Association.
During the interview, D’Amaro stated that there are five main categories that each of the Disney Parks around the globe are focused on to keep all Guests and Cast Members safe and healthy. Those categories are:
- Health and wellness
- Cleaning and disinfecting
- Technology solutions
- Cast Member and employee training and safety
- Partnership between Disney and Guests
D’Amaro goes on to say that the reopening of Parks has been successful and Guests know what to expect before their arrival which has helped in the reopening process. Guests seem to be please and accepting of all new protocols.
Resorts like the Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland are part of a larger ecosystem that includes everything from your local pizza shop to major airlines. D’Amaro has been thanked by local business owners in the Orlando area that are outside of the main confines of the Walt Disney World Resort how are thankful the Parks have reopened and business has started to pick up again.
When it comes to Disneyland reopening, D’Amaro stated that they are “ready.” The are currently just waiting on official reopening guidelines from the state of California so they can get the process started and bring Cast Members back to work.
Dow asked D’Amaro what new protocols might be here to stay even after the pandemic is over. He stated he thinks the new technology like the Disney Park Pass theme park reservation system is here to stay as it helps limit attendance and mange the overall Guest experience. Guests can also expect that mobile ordering, queue reservation systems like the one currently in use at Ride of the Resistance in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and cashless transactions will be here to stay.
D’Amaro also gives some advise for small businesses during the pandemic. He suggests to keep connected to all Guests and clients and also invest in employee development.
To wrap up the interview, D’Amaro states that the travel industry is resilient and will come out even stronger when the pandemic is all said and done. This will be achieved by everyone working together to bring travel back to life!
