Yep, this is great news.
Ron Howard, speaking to SiriusXM radio Radio Andy (and bumped by dailymail.co.uk), said of Willow:

Willow (1988): A young farmer is chosen to undertake a perilous journey in order to protect a special baby from an evil queen.
“I was in a two-hour story meeting last night…the writer Jon Kasdan is leading the charge [and announced] a great group of writers and it’s in very active development.”
Of course, we’ve been waiting for more word on Willow since January:

Howard: Working on Solo?
But wait, there’s more. Howard also spoke about his other cult hit for Lucasfilm: Solo: A Star Wars Story:

Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018): During an adventure into the criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his future co-pilot Chewbacca and encounters Lando Calrissian years before joining the Rebellion.
“Well, there’s no sequel planned – now. And it’s amazing to be part of a Star Wars movie that seems to be kind of an underground hit; not what you would expect. But that’s been an odd strange journey for that movie.”
I will unabashedly say that when Howard said “now” it was as hopeful as I’ve heard “now” be pronounced.
Of course, there’s a pretty good pedigree in the Howard, Kasdan cooperation clan:

We’ve been watching the Willow developments for some time:
January 20, 2020
January 7, 2020
So, we are pretty excited to see the Willow news switch in a positive direction.
Moreover, and for that matter, it’s fun to see Solo news take off, too:
July 22, 2020
May 26, 2020
And, here’s hoping that Ron Howard remains in the loop for either and both of the projects (and there’s no arrested development)!
