Lin-Manuel Miranda and Jose Andres Team Up With Coca-Cola To Raise Funds For World Health Kitchen
If you were following along with us here at MickeyBlog over the weekend then you know that was all about Hamilton. A movie version of the Broadway blockbuster finally arrived at Disney+ just in time for the 4th of July and to say we were blown away would be an understatement.
But here’s something I bet you didn’t know! Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda and Disney Springs Chef Jose Andres have quite the bro-mance going and have long been supporters of one another’s work.
In the lead into the Hamilton premiere, the duo teamed up with Coca-Cola to raise $1 million to World Central Kitchen, a charity founded by Jose Andres to end food poverty around the world.

The incredible thing about this donation is that the money will go toward 150 local restaurants in communities that have been the hardest hit by the global health crisis. In doing so, it will allow these eateries to rehire up to 1,400 staff members.

Over the years the two have spent a lot of time tweeting out about the accomplishments of the other according to a piece in In-Style. This includes Miranda creating apparel to raise money for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS or Mirando supporting Andrews hunger-relief efforts throughout New York City. They have even vacationed together!
Miranda and his father Luis, also co-wrote the forward to Andre’s book, We Fed an Island: The True Story of Rebuilding Puerto Rico, One Meal at a Time, about World Central Kitchen’s charitable response to Hurricane Maria in 2017.

Andrés himself has a life story worthy of a Miranda musical. In 1990, he was on board to work for his best friend (and future celebrity chef) Ferran Adrià at El Bulli. However, according to InStyle, after a meeting that didn’t go so well, Andrés was fired and he moved to New York City with just $50 in his pocket.
Over the next 30 years, Andres built a restaurant empire that now boasts eateries from Washington, D.C., to Las Vegas to Disney World. For his humanitarian work, he even found himself nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.
This is a relationship that we hope continues to thrive and that we’ll continue to follow along with here at MickeyBlog! Keep checking back in with us for the latest news and updates!
