Drive-In Theater Presents Star Wars: A New Hope
Do you live in Chicago? Do you love Star Wars? Well, hop in the car and head to a galaxy far, far away.
Pilsen, Illinois is the name of the neighborhood. ChiTown Movies (at ChiTown Futbol), the name of the place. And, this week, Star Wars: A New Hope will be on the big, big screen.
Make The Jump To ChiTown Movies
“[I]ndoor moviegoing remains verboten under Illinois’ social distancing rules, drive-in theaters are permitted,” posted the Chicago Sun-Times. “New ones are popping up in Pilsen and Bridgeview, with others on the way.
“The ChiTown Movies drive-in… will continue offering screenings of “Star Wars: A New Hope” at 8:50 p.m. and 11:50 p.m. through June 15.”
In this case, it sounds like out of the box thinking landed R2D2 in Chicago.
“We believe that a nostalgia-filled drive-in movie experience offers a way for friends and families to enjoy a night out while continuing to adhere to social distancing and other local guidelines,” owner Bryce Bowman told Block Club Chicago. “We look forward to welcoming people from all over Chicagoland to experience a movie at our brand new drive-in theater.”
One Reviewer From Chicago
BTW: This is what Chicago Sun-Time Reviewer Roger Ebert thought of Star Wars back in 1977:
Drive-In: It’ll Cost Ya
Anyway, the price is reasonable, $33 per car (up to five adults, $5 extra per adult).
So, what’s the real trick?
Well, there are only 107 spaces. And, you can’t leave your car except to use the bathroom (use your mask).
However, there’s good food to be had from The ChiTown Grill – the onsite restaurant.
Order online or via phone and they’ll deliver to your parking spot.
But what if you get shut out of Star Wars?
Not to worry, we hear from The Sun-Times that on June 11 — across town in Bridgeview — you can catch The Goonies at SeatGeek Stadium.
