Disney World and Union Workers Reach Agreement on Safeguards for Returning to Work
Walt Disney Co has reached an agreement with the unions representing workers at Walt Disney World on safeguard protocol and policies to protect employees from COVID-19, the Service Trades Council Union stated said on Thursday. This was a major hurdle the company faced to reopen the theme parks. The Service Trades Council Union represents about 43,000 works at Walt Disney World.
Disney has also announced that some retail shops and restaurants in Disney Springs will reopen on May 20th. But so far, no reopening date for the theme parks have been announced yet.

The first wave of Disney World employees will be back at the park on Saturday to get ready for the influx of guests on the 20th. As we previously reported here at MickeyBlog a group of over 100 custodians will be the first back to ensure that the area is well maintained and following the necessary protocols.
President of UNITE HERE, Local 362 Eric Clinton told The Hollywood Reporter that his union members feel a “mixed bag of emotions” about returning to work. He added that its a balancing act between not getting infected by the virus and not being able to pay rent.
Disney is taking the safety of his members as well as visitors very seriously with new precautions. This includes the following:
- All guests and employees will be required to wear masks.
- Disney will be providing employees with washable masks
- Guests will have their temperatures checked
- Plexiglass dividers have been installed at all registers.
- Guests will swipe their own payment cards.
- Custodians will be retrained to pay attention to high-touch areas.
