‘Aladdin Sequel’ To Tell a Completely Different Story
We know that a sequel to the live-action Aladdin is in the works. Guy Ritchie will be back in the director’s chair for this upcoming release. But what’s the storyline? The CheatSheet recently tackled this subject. Let’s take a look at some of the possibilities!
Guy Ritchie is set to return to the director's chair for #Aladdin2, while Will Smith, @MenaMassoud and @NaomiScott are expected to reprise their roles as Genie, Aladdin and Jasmine, respectively https://t.co/RCU5St3rJg

A Genie-Focused Film
Will Smith’s turn as the Genie in the lamp was box office gold! If there’s one element of the live-action version the really captured the imagination of film-goers it was the way the story was framed by the former genie who is now father of two sailing the world with his family.
Focusing on genies evolution may make for an exciting new direction and one the veers away from the direct-to-video sequels released after the original animated version of Aladdin.
Jasmine as Sultan
Another angle could be an exploration of Jasmine as Sultan. This was a new modern “Happily Ever After” ending that is definitely worth further exploration. As CheatSheet suggests, “Being the new leader, however, means likely running into major roadblocks just because she’s a woman.”.
What About Aladdin?
As the title suggests Aladdin 2 will need to feature Aladdin. So I think we can expect him to factor into the storyline in some way. Comping with the responsibilities of supporting the Sultan, dealing with Jafar who somehow makes a mighty return? He’ll be in there somehow!
More Dalia?
My daughter’s favorite character in live-action Aladdin is not Jasmine, Aladdin or Genie but rather Jasmine’s handmade turned wife of Genie- Dalia. She’s definitely a character we’d love to see more from and though as CheatSheet argues she could easily have a film of her own it might be fun to see more about her a human genies life sailing the seven seas!
Once production for the film does gain momentum, I suspect we’ll see an awesome amalgamation of many of the ideas above. What would you like to see as the focus of the sequel!? Let us know in the comments below.
