Disneyland’s Last Day Before Closing Due to COVID-19
The last day for the Disneyland Resort to remain open was this Friday. Brady MacDonald from the OC Register describes a little about what this day was like for many guests. The weather was appropriate for the somber mood. The rainy day was reflective of how many guests felt at the possibility of Disneyland’s last day. One guest, who has visited Disneyland park 2,995 consecutive days described that it felt like “the last hurrah,” to the OC Register.

The Disneyland Resort is closing due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19). The parks will remain closed at least until the end of the month, according to the latest Disney announcements. For many, even the weather conditions could not put a damper on the joy of visiting ‘The Happiest Place on Earth.’ Guests were seen laughing, interacting with characters, and enjoying attractions as they would on any other day.

In the uncertain times that we are currently experiencing, the Disney parks have been a beacon of hope while they have remained open. As the Coronavirus has spread, the inevitability of the parks closing became impossible to avoid. Even after taking drastic measures to promote hand hygiene, the announcement finally came that both the Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts would be closing temporarily.

Disneyland’s Last Day
The OC Register spoke to many guests who shared what it was like on Disneyland’s last day. According to the report, crowds had already significantly thinned out, making social distancing easily accomplished. Wait times remained short, and while the parades were cancelled it was mostly due to the rainy weather. There are approximately 31,000 Disneyland employees, who have been notified that they will be paid during this time. According to the OC Register, one Cast Member compared it to spring break “but with nothing to do.”

While some guests were seen sporting masks, one guest admitted it was more of a selfie opportunity than anything else. The day ended with Cast Members emotionally bidding guests farewell, and we feel confident that more than a few tears were shed at that time. The Walt Disney World will close on March 16th.
