Among many other announcements today, Bob Iger included a very special one. Dave Smith, Founder of the Walt Disney Archives and Disney Legend, will get a main street window dedicated to him on Main Street USA in Disneyland. Smith passed away at the age of 78 in February of 2019.
His career started on June 22nd, 1970 when he founded Walt Disney Archives. Appropriately, the window will debut in Disneyland on June 22nd, 2020. Smith was hired by Walt’s brother Roy Disney. He was responsible for growing the archives from essentially a one-man show to the authority on all things Disney it is today.
In honor of his incredible legacy and impact on The Walt Disney Company, Disney Executive Chairman Bob Iger announced today at Disney’s Annual Meeting of Shareholders in Raleigh, North Carolina, that Smith will receive the highest honor that Disneyland Resort bestows: a tribute window on Main Street, U.S.A. His window will be unveiled on June 22, 2020, which marks the 50th anniversary of the Walt Disney Archives’ founding. (Source: D23/Buhlman)
Smith retired in 2010 after 40 years with the company. He was the recipient of the Disney Legends Award. Dave once said, “My greatest reward has been getting to know the many people who have come to use the Archives over the years. I have been especially proud to be a guide and mentor to so many young people who have gone on to exceptional careers in the Disney organization”
