Opening Date for Avengers Campus Announced, Our First Look Inside the Immersive Land
We are excited to confirm that Avengers Campus in Disney California Adventure Park at the Disneyland Resort will officially open and begin accepting recruits as of July 18, 2020!
Once open, Avengers Campus will invite recruits to immerse themselves in everything Marvel and the Avengers. Story lines and characters have been pulled from Marvel’s 81-year comic book history along with a decade of Marvel Cinematic Universe movies.
“It’s about living out your superhero fantasies,” says Walt Disney Imagineering Executive Creative Director Brent Strong. “Not just bring it to life — where you get to see your favorite heroes or you get to meet your favorite heroes — but you actually get to become a hero.”
Avengers Campus Attractions
Once complete, Avenger Campus will offer recruits three attractions to experience. Two new rides and one that is already open.
The family-friendly “WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure,” will put recruits web-slinging skills to the test. With advanced technology designed just for this attraction, recruits will go on a mission and experience what it’s like to have super powers and sling webs alongside Spider-Man.The attraction will accommodate eight recruits at a time wearing 3-D glasses, who board a Web-Slinger vehicle for a four-and-a-half minute mission to catch or destroy the Spider-Bots, racing through the factory and into tunnels running underneath Avengers Campus.
“You actually get to sling webs just like Spider-Man,” Strong promised. “We can render a virtual web coming right out of the palm of your hand, right out of your virtual web shooters, and into a virtual world. It’s a lot less painful than being bitten by a radioactive spider, but you actually get to have all of those amazing powers.”
The already opened attraction, “Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout,” will also be a part of Avengers Campus. This ride takes Guests on a gravity-defying mission to help Rocket the Raccoon free Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax and Groot from the Collector. One of the best parts of this attraction is the cameos from actors and actresses from the movie.
Not many details have been released on the third attraction for the Land but we do know it will utilize a completely new ride system and allow recruits to fly a Quinjet to team up with Black Panther and other Avengers for adventures to Wakanda and beyond.
Come Face-to-Face with your Favorite Marvel Heroes and Villains
Recruits at Avengers Campus will have the chance to come face-to-face with their favorite Marvel Heroes and Villains. That includes encounters with Iron Man, Captain Marvel, Black Widow, Doctor Strange, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther, the Dora Milaje, Thor and even villains like Loki. In addition, Ant-Man and the Wasp will be making their first appearance in Disney California Adventure Park. Iron Man will also be debuting his new armor in Avengers Campus: the Mark 80.
Nearby, Doctor Strange will be training recruits in the mystic arts by bringing an ancient sanctum to life with powerful spells. When the sun goes down, the area will glow even more vividly with majestic colors and lights, pulsating with mystic energy.
Taskmasker, who will have a role in the upcoming film “Black Widow,” will be seen for the first time at a Disney park at Avengers Campus. Taskmaster’s abilities include photographic reflexes. Taskmaster can replicate Super Hero moves, making this new villain a balanced foe for the Campus heroes.
