Update: Driver Ticketed and Taken Into Custody After Crash that Killed Family Outside of Disney
Late last month MickeyBlog reported with great sadness a car wreck outside of Disney property that killed four members of a family. The family of eight were rear-ended in their rental van and four members of the family were killed. The fatalities, Julie Smith (41), Scarlett Smith (5), Josephine Fay (71), and Jackson Smith (11), were mourned by the entire community.
At the time the driver who rear-ended the family, Lucas Do Reis Laurindo (26) did not seem impaired and provided a voluntary blood sample. Last week, Laurindo was issued a ticket for reckless driving and taken into federal custody for a visa violation.
Laurindo was driving a Dodge Ram 3500 pick-up truck. He failed to slow and rear-ended the family van causing it to turn on its side and hit two additional cars. He was taken into custody on February 28th and is being held at Glades County Jail.
MickeyBlog extends condolences to the Smith and Fay family for their loss. Here is the story from News 6 in Orlando. (Source: News 6 Orlando)
