Captain Marvel Sequel In the Works
According to a recent piece in Variety, Disney has officially launched development of a Captain Marvel sequel! The studio is in final negotiations with Megan McDonnell the staff writer of WandaVision to work on the project. Captain Marvel starring Brie Larson was a massive success for the studio in 2019 going on to gross over $1.3 billion worldwide.
As of going to print, Disney nor Marvel have yet to set a release date or announce an official title for the project.
The first film centered around Carol Danvers a fighter pilot going on to become the power Captain Marvel as the Earth is caught in the center of a galactic conflict. In addition to Larson in the title role, the film also starred Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Annette Bening, Clark Gregg, and Jude Law. The film was written and directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck.
The film tied in nicely with the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Larson resumed her role as Captain Marvel in another massive hit – Avengers: Endgame.
In terms of other projects in the pipeline, next up is Wandavision which is slated to debut this year on Disney’s new streaming service – Disney+. The series will focus on Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch played by Elizabeth Olsen and Vision played by Paul Bettany. The series will also star “Mad Men” and “If Beale Street Could Talk” actress Teyonah Parris as an adult version of Monica Rambeau, a character who was introduced as a child in “Captain Marvel.”
