Former Tinker Bell Model To Wed Suitor 70 Years After They First Met
Here’s an afternoon story that is certain to make your heart soar! Robert Boeke, 94, and Margaret Kerry, 90, are about to get married 70 years after they last dated. The couple have set a date of Valentine’s Day where Kerry will marry a man she had not seen in 70 years! There’s so much to unpack in this lovely story that we here at MickeyBlog couldn’t wait to share it with you!
Margaret Kerry, the 90-year old California resident was a reference model for Tinker Bell in the lead into the 1953 Disney classic Peter Pan. For 9 months she reported to a studio stage where she dressed in a bathing suit with her hair in a bun to pantomime the movements bringing to life one of Disney’s most iconic characters. She even worked with giant props such as keyholes and scissors!
Kerry and Boeke dated for over a year in the 1940s when he was a student at the University of Southern California. He even took her to a fraternity dance and gave her a bracelet that she kept in her jewellery box for the next 70 years!
However, after their month together they went their separate ways with Boeke taking a job with Mobile Oil and marrying his first wife (who he was with for 50 years.) Kerry, of course, worked for Disney, married a TV director for 37 years and married again for another 12 years! She is also the mother to three children.
The couple reconnected when Boeke, who served in Europe during WWII returned with a friend last Summer to go on a tour of European battle sights. While in Amsterdam he saw a picture of Tinker Bell in the window and commented to a friend that he once went on a date with her!
The friend went on to track down Kerry via her website and sent an email saying that Boeke was reminiscing about their time together. A few days later Boeke was in France where he was being honored during a D-Day Ceremony when he received an email back from Kerry. Not only did she remember him but said that she still had the bracelet in her jewelry box.
Kerry appeared in the Andy Griffith show reunion this fall (she had been a child actor on the show) and Boeke drove 9 hours to meet her! From then on they’ve been inseparable. It was Kerry who proposed over breakfast one morning and now they are set to be married on Valentine’s Day in California. They will then be given a special tour of Disney before moving to their new home in Sarasota!
