Everything You Need to Know About Haunted Mansion Holiday!
Season’s screamings Disney friends! It’s that time of year when New Orleans Square’s iconic Haunted Mansion attraction get’s a frightfully delightful seasonal makeover. Haunted Mansion Holiday is once again wow-ing the crowds at Disneyland theme park with Jack Skellington and the gang on hand for their yearly haunting. To celebrate the return of one of our favorite attraction layovers ever here’s some spooktacular fun facts!
Deck the Halls
Haunted Mansion Holiday is truly a sight to behold during the Halloween and Christmas seasons! With over 400 flicker candles and more than 100 jack-o’-lanterns it casts an ominous glow over New Orleans Square. Both inside and out you’ll find thousands of feet of black garland along with more than 200 bones!
Supernatural Effects
During the fall and winter both grim grinning ghosts and familiar friends from Halloween Town come out to socialize. The fun starts with Jack Skellington and his ghostly companion Zero appearing in an animated sequence above guests head in The Stretching Room. During the tour in your Doom Buggy, more than two dozen additional characters from Halloween Town materialize. Be on the lookout for everyone from Oogie Boogie and Sally to “Scary Teddy.”
On the 13th Day of Christmas…
One of our favorite rooms of the Haunted Mansion anytime of year has to be the seance room featuring Madame Leota. During the Nightmare Before Christmas-themed overlay, 13 spinning tarot card show Christmas gifts that Madame Leota has been gifted. This spooky specter also gets a different monologue during the holidays. The Haunted Mansion Holiday version is voiced by Imagineer Kim Irvine, the daughter of Leota Toombs whose face was the model for Madame Leota.
Very, Merry Special (Tricks and) Treats
Since Haunted Mansion Holiday debuted 18 years ago, there has been one delectable addition that has captured the imaginations of Disney fans everywhere – the supernaturally sweet ginger bread house in the Grand Hall. This year, in celebration of the Haunted Mansion’s 50th Anniversary, the 10-foot tall gingerbread creation is a replica of the mansion complete with 15 spirited ghosts and luminous haunts all made out of gingerbread. This towering dessert is actually made up of more than 30 pounds of gingerbread and 120 pounds of frosting and icing!
Graveyard Ghouls
The grand finally of your Haunted Mansion Holiday visit is a trip through the graveyard. During the holidays, you’ll find happy haunts, a gaggle of ghouls and the Pumpkin King come out to socialize. There’s also the iconic Graveyard of Ice Angels. These are designed with a jagged, ice-carved look. The wings of the Angels are in snow-glow colors that shine with a luminous luster. The graveyard also features 7,500 square feet of snow and more than 20 gallons of UV (ultra-violet) paint. There are also over 1,000 tiny orange lights decorating the trees.
