10 Years of Marvel & Disney: So Happy Together
Ten years ago, August 31, 2009, Disney purchased Marvel.
In thinking about that momentous day, (unbeknownst to the band) The Turtles probably said it best:
If I should call you up, invest a dime
And you say you belong to me and ease my mind
Imagine how the world could be, so very fine
So happy together
That “dime” was actually $4-billion, but can any comics fan imagine a world without the Marvel & Disney marriage; without the Marvel Cinematic Universe? So who’s counting?
BTW: Now is a good chance to re-watch the 93-second fan cut of the MCU.
All those amazing moments: Imagine a cineverse without Iron Man and Thor or Captain America? Without Hawkeye and Black Widow or even Spider-Man? Not this guy.
Watch this:
I mean. Come. On. Iron Man vs. Thor vs. Captain America. ‘Nuff said.
Or, maybe the Beach Boys said it better:
I may not always love you
But long as there are stars above you
You never need to doubt it
I’ll make you so sure about it
God only knows what I’d be without you
My goodness, without the Disney and Marvel marriage, there would be no Corg.
Watch this (PG-13):
I could listen to Corg all day. All Corg. All day.
In actuality, it was Disney CEO Bob Iger who said it best, when he talked with CNN Money about the purchase.
“This is perfect from a strategic perspective… This treasure trove of over 5,000 characters offers Disney the ability to do what we do best.”
Yep. Here’s to 10-years, and many, many more.
Excelsior!
