Marvel on Disney+: What Else Is On The Horizon?
Despite the end of the Infinity Saga, the Marvel Cinematic Universe — and it’s Disney+ TV spinoffs — are omnipresent in current entertainment news. And I don’t just mean about Spidey.
With D23 coming this weekend, several sources continue to speculate on what might be coming to streaming when Disney’s newest digital venture hits screens in November.
While many posts might have a click-bait style headline, there’s no doubt that Disney+ is a game-changer for the superhero business — and there’s smoke on the horizon.
Ms. Marvel & Hulk Coming to Disney+?
For example, wegotthiscovered.com mused about possible “Incredible Hulk” and “Ms. Marvel” series, citing other sites’ musings, and — clearly — sticking to the “where there’s smoke, there’s fire” point of view.
Disney Plus is being designed as a Netflix-killer, with the House of Mouse sparing no expense in bringing the MCU to the platform. At San Diego Comic-Con, we got a little more information on The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, WandaVision, Loki and Hawkeye, but it seems that the line-up is set to expand dramatically.
We already knew from Kevin Feige’s comments that they have the MCU’s Phase 5 mapped out and that it’ll bring us even more Disney Plus shows. Furthermore, one of them is due to be unveiled soon. Possibly at D23 this coming weekend.
At least, that’s according to MCU Cosmic, who say that another big MCU series is set to premiere on the platform, but at this point, they’re unsure of what it could be… [However,] after being received well by Marvel fans, the character was granted her own title in 2014, thus becoming the first Muslim hero to headline her own comic book in the Marvel Universe. We know that Feige’s a big fan of Ms. Marvel, too, having confirmed that something’s in the works for her during an interview in the run-up to the release of Captain Marvel.
It’s Not Easy Being Green
And then there’s the Hulk. But can that character make the transition back to the small screen?
James added:
While a project for Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk would certainly be exciting, could a Disney Plus series really afford to show the levels of destruction necessary to realize the character on the small screen? That remains to be seen, but some supporting MCU characters may also warrant a show of their own. What about a series revolving around Valkyrie transforming life in New Asgard? Or something that introduces heroes with toned down powers like Moon Knight?
Moon Knight. Really?
I am comfortable enough to admit I have NO CLUE who “Moon Knight” is (and given even my nominal nerd cred, that might be telling as to its viability as a series). But hey, that’s what’s been great about the MCU. You just never know.
And as James wrote, D23 is coming, and we’ll have more of a clue really, really soon.
Hang on to your hats, True Believers!
But what do you think will hit air for Marvel? Ms. Marvel? Hulk? Or something out of this world? Let us know in the comments below.
