‘Aladdin’ Continues to Soar Grossing $450 Million at the Box Office
In what could be one of the sleeper hits of 2019, Disney’s live-action adaptation of Aladdin continues its magic carpet ride of a cinematic run grossing a mighty impressive $450 million at the box office.
The film starring Will Smith as the Genie and directed by Guy Ritchie only cost $183 million to produce and since opening Memorial Day Weekend has earned an impressive $445.9 million in worldwide box office sales. Should this trend continue the project could easily surpass Maleficent which earned around $749 million back in 2014.
With recent sequel Toy Story 4 underperforming at the weekend, Aladdin is coming as a bit of a surprise especially since opinions were mixed about WIll Smith taking on the role made so iconic by the late Robin Williams.
It will be interesting to see if the film will maintain it’s momentum as we inch ever closer to the openings of both Spider-Man : Far From Home (July 2nd) and the next live-action release The Lion King(July 19th.) We’ll be watching these numbers closely so keep following along with MickeyBlog for the latest news and updates.
For those who have yet to see the film, here’s a quick look at the trailer:
