Tasty Treat: Caramel Butter Bar
My husband decide this week that our entire family should take a break from sugar. I thought … this sounds healthy so I guess I’ll go for it! No sweets, no candy … and sadly … no joy. I must admit that I am currently quite cranky! This gal needs her sugar! So, in honor of my current sugar fast, I am going to write about one of the most decadent sugar snacks in all of Disney World – the Caramel Butter Bar! If I can’t enjoy it right now, perhaps someone else can enjoy it for me!
What is it?
A shortbread crust topped with a layer of caramel fudge topped with a butter crumble. Spread on a sheet pan and then cut into square bars. Served at room temperature.
Why try it?
Shortbread is a combination of butter, sugar, and flour which is mixed and baked into a crust. The butter and flour mixture, when baked, becomes crumbly and has a melt-in-your-mouth texture. The caramel fudge layer is spread over the shortbread slightly warm so that it oozes into the crevices, binding the light and flaky crust together into one splendid bite. The combination of milk, sugar, and vanilla is cooked to a perfect temperature for caramelization. It has a glossy sheen, golden color, and slight stickiness that makes caramel so glorious. It is slightly chewy, but soft enough for an easy bite! Normally, I like my treats to have some tart or salt to balance the sweet. But not this time! This bar is full on rich, decadent, buttery, caramel, chewy, golden goodness! It is not afraid to say … “I’m rich. I’m sweet. I’m buttery. And I’m worth it.”
Where can I find it?
The Caramel Butter Bar is tucked behind a delightful glass case of treats in a small little sweet shop called Karamell-Küche. Sponsored by Werther’s, this shop is located in Epcot World Showcase’s Germany Pavilion. As the name implies, everything in the shop is made with caramel. Everything. And it is ah-mazing. Upon entering, buttery scents of warm sugar fill your nose as you are instantly transported into a confectionary of caramel that would make even Willy Wonka proud. Caramel Apples and fresh caramel popcorn are the traditional choices. But there are so many golden and luscious caramel options, it is truly hard to select a favorite. If you can’t choose, why not try more than one? You won’t regret it!
