Disney Announced That Downtown Disney Will Still Open As Planned On July 9th With Outside Dining Only
This evening, we here at MickeyBlog shared the news with you that Governor Gavin Newsom has just passed an order in California that will see indoor businesses closed including bars, restaurants and cinemas as a result of the continued spread of COVID-19 in the state.
While the Governor’s order prohibits the indoor operation of restaurants, Disney has said that they will STILL move ahead with plans to reopen Downtown Disney on July 9th. However, dining at one of Downtown Disney’s awesome restaurants will be limited to outside seating only!
According to a recent piece in People, the reopening of Disneyland’s dining and shopping district will include both Disney-owned and operated businesses, as well as third-party businesses on site. Disney will also be implementing new safety measures. This includes limiting crowds, establishing clearly defined entry points, hand-washing stations, temperature checks and more.
Disneyland has created a special “Know Before You Go” section of the Downtown Disney website that will have the most up-to-date information about the reopening process and what to expect when you arrive. You’ll find it here.
Disneyland recently announced plans to open the theme parks on July 17th. However, this has been pushed back indefinitely as the company waits for Governor Newsom to sign off on their reopening plans. Many insiders speculate that this may be delayed further by the surge in COVID-19 cases with 9,000+ new cases reported today alone.
In an official statement released last week, a Disney spokesman had this to say about the delay, “The State of California has now indicated that it will not issue theme park reopening guidelines until sometime after July 4.” It continues. “Given the time required for us to bring thousands of cast members back to work and restart our business, we have no choice but to delay the reopening of our theme parks and resort hotels until we receive approval from government officials.”
This is a story we’ll continue to follow closely here at MickeyBlog. Readers are encouraged to keep checking in with us for further Disneyland news and updates.
