Despite Coronavirus Pandemic Crowds Remain High at the Theme Parks
Earlier today our Head MickeyBlogger appeared in a piece by the New York Times regarding the impact the Coronavirus was having on theme park attendance. An Orlando resident, Greg Antonelle, who is also the CE for MickeyTravels has been visiting the parks throughout the week and describes attendance as “business as usual.”
This seems to be supported by attraction wait times currently available to view as part of Disney’s My Disney Experience app. As of going to print wait times at attractions like Splash Mountain and Space Mountain at Disney’s Magic Kingdom theme park have wait times in excess of 100 minutes.
What we’re seeing at the moment are pretty standard Spring Break crowds. Attractions that normally boast shorted wait times like Haunted Mansion are over the 60 minute mark!
Over at Animal Kingdom its more of the same with Wait Times for popular attractions like Avatar Flight of Passage and Expedition Everest having larger than average queues.
Though attendance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios tends to taper off later in the day, rides like Slinky Dog Dash, Toy Story Mania and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway are still going strong with waits over an hour!
Similar trends are also spotted over at Epcot. Though Soarin’ seems to be absorbing the crowds, Test Track, Frozen Ever After and Mission Space are all boasting long wait times.
This figures would seem to be in keeping with the theory that families are still flocking to the theme parks despite increased concern over the Coronavirus. Disney has yet to announced any theme park closures stateside. However, we’re monitoring the situation closely and will let you know should this change!
