‘Frozen’ Songwriters Working On Movie Adaptation of Graphic Novel Featuring Genderqueer Prince
According to a recent piece in LGBTQ News, the songwriters from Frozen (Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez) are working on a brand new movie musical adapted from an award-winning graphic novel about a genderqueer prince.
The novel, The Prince and the Dressmaker is by Jen Wang and is set in Paris. It follows the story of 16-year-old Prince Sebastian whose parents are trying to find him a suitable bride. However, he has his own love of wearing dresses. A close relationship emerges between him and a servant named Frances, a dressmaker with aspirations of her own.
Frances helps the prince become Lady Crystallia who quickly becomes known in the Parisian circles as a trendsetter. However, much of the action centers around the balance Sebastian tries to maintain between his duty and his dreams.
The graphic novel has garnered praise for its depiction of a genderqueer or genderfluid character.
For this project, Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez will be teaming up with Marc Plat and Amy Herzog (Pulitzer Prize finalist for 4000 Miles) to create the project for Universal – Not Disney.
As of going to print, no release date has been announced. Keep following along with MickeyBlog for the latest Disney news and updates. You can also get the graphic novel of The Prince and the Dressmaker here.
