Vin Diesel Hints That A Groot-Centric Film Could Be In The Works
With the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, James Gunn’s intergalactic team ended its story on a high note.
While some Guardians actors including Dave Bautista and Zoe Saldana have publicly stated that they are moving on from the MCU, and will not be returning for more Guardians films, other team members have been more open to reprising their roles.
Franchise star Chris Pratt, for example, has been open about his willingness to return, and Vol 3.’s admonition that “The Legendary Star-Lord will return” makes it sound like we will see the fan favorite character again sooner or later.
Another Guardians star who seems willing to forge ahead is Vin Diesel. The longtime action star has voiced Groot in the franchise’s three films and holiday special, in addition to starring in his own series of shorts titled I Am Groot.
Diesel Talks About Groot’s Future
Ahead of the premiere of the second season of I Am Groot on September 6, Diesel took to Instagram to talk about how much he enjoys voicing the iconic Marvel character.
“So my niece called me and said… thank you uncle Vin for making I Am Groot, haha… the shorts written and directed by the talented Kristin Lepore. It was a blast making, but it’s also a blast watching it with my angels. No wonder Marvel wants to make the Planet X movie. All love. #FloraColossi #AlphaGroot #PlanetX”
Diesel’s post not only featured a heartwarming story about his niece, but a possible indicator that Marvel could be gearing up for another Guardians of the Galaxy adventure, that could see the team return to Groot’s home- Planet X.
What is Planet X?
In the comics, Planet is X is the central hub of a branch of worlds where Flora Colossi reside. If Marvel were to bring the planet into the MCU, it would give them a great opportunity to delve into Groot’s backstory.

With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. revolving around the traumatic upbringing of Rocket Raccoon, it could makes sense to give Groot a similar treatment.
For his part, Diesel has referenced the idea of making a Planet X movie before.

Still, with Pratt openly willing to return, and Diesel aiming for a Groot-centric film of his own, it seems that the Guardians of the Galaxy’s story may not be finished just yet.
