Disney+ Password Sharing Crackdown Begins This September
Ugh…not again. Another streaming platform is preparing to crack down on password-sharing.
Do you use a friend or family member’s Disney+ account to watch the latest series or newest movie? If so, you’ll be disappointed to hear about Disney’s plans to monetize password sharing–here’s what we know.
Disney+ Password Sharing Crackdown
In the Walt Disney Company’s third-quarter earnings call today, CEO Bob Iger shared that Disney+ would launch their crackdown on password sharing this September.
According to Verge, Disney had previously announced plans to roll out paid password sharing–much like Netflix’s system–and started notifying users of the upcoming change. That was followed by the launch of paid sharing in a few countries in June, with no indication of when it would begin in the United States.
While no details were provided regarding the cost, Disney confirmed that paid sharing would officially roll out to more subscribers in September. Disney also stated that they haven’t received backlash to the paid sharing notifications yet.
Disney is also increasing Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ subscriptions starting in October–one month after the paid sharing rollout.
We’ll let you know when Disney releases more information about paid sharing, so stay tuned to MickeyBlog.com.
