‘Black Panther’s Letitia Wright Hints at Possible MCU Return as Shuri
While Marvel Studios has yet to announce that a Black Panther 3 is in development, franchise star Letitia Wright is teasing that fans have not seen the last of Shuri.
During a recent appearance on The View to promote her latest film, Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot, Wright was asked about her future in the MCU.
“There are some new Avenger movies on the horizon, and everyone wants to know if Shuri will be making another appearance in the Marvel universe. We need it,” Sunny Hostin asked.
Wright Calls Shuri “One of My Favorite Characters”
After taking a moment to collect her thoughts, Wright confirmed that she would love to return as Shuri again, though she did not divulge any new information.
“If it’s, uh, let’s just say, let’s just say…” Wright began. “I would like to continue with Shuri. She’s one of my favorite characters. It’s such a blessing, honestly. I kid you not. I’m so grateful for her.”
When Hostin asked if a Black Panther 3 was in the works, Wright was coy.
“There’s a lot coming up,” she said smiling.
Will We Get ‘Black Panther 3’?
Following the death of Chadwick Boseman in 2020, the weight of carrying the Black Panther franchise forward fell on Wright’s shoulders. As opposed to recasting the role of King T’Challa, Marvel opted to have the character die in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Through the film’s events, the mantle of Black Panther then fell to Wright’s Shuri.
Released in November of 2022, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was another hit for Marvel. The film eventually grossed $859 million at the global box office. Following the film’s release, it was reported that writer/director Ryan Coogler and Marvel head Kevin Feige had discussed a potential third film in the franchise.
Since then, however, nothing has been announced.
Other Opportunities For Shuri to Return
Even outside of the Black Panther franchise, there are seemingly multiple opportunities for Wright to return as Shuri in the MCU. With the Marvel multiverse set to come together for Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars, it would be shocking not to see the new Black Panther appear.
Additionally, Ironheart, a spin-off of Wakanda Forever that will follow Dominique Thorne’s Riri Williams, is set to arrive on Disney+ next year.
