Anaheim City Council Votes on DisneylandForward Proposal This Week
Anaheim’s City Council will review and vote on the DisneylandForward proposal this Tuesday, April 16, at 5 p.m.
The meeting will take place at Anaheim City Hall and will be broadcast on the city’s website, YouTube channel, and Anaheim TV for Spectrum cable subscribers.
The meeting is the first expected Council vote on DisneylandForward.
DisneylandForward Proposal
DisneylandForward is a multidecade proposal that will update a 1990 Anaheim city plan that dictates where types of development can go and how they mix together. This includes a mix of hotel, dining, theme park, retail, dining, and entertainment offerings on the Disneyland resort.
More specifically, the updated proposal calls for allowing theme park attractions alongside hotels on the west side of Disneyland Drive and near the Toy Story Parking Area.
In addition, there will be expanded parking and potential footbridges.
The proposed zoning changes potentially allow for new theme park attractions and lands in Anaheim but do not request any new acreage, square footage, or hotel rooms to be developed.
Proposed Development Agreement
The proposal also includes a development agreement between Ahaheim and Disney. The company would invest a minimum of $1.9 billion in theme park, lodging, entertainment, shopping, and dining experiences within 10 years of any approval including:
- $30 million for affordable housing in Anaheim within five years of approval
- $10 million: for sewer improvements along Katella Avenue
- $8 million for Anaheim parks within first year of any approval.
In addition, DisneylandForward also includes a proposal for Disney to pay $39.6 million to take on responsibility for Magic Way.
Tuesday’s Meeting
If DisneylandForward is approved on Tuesday, it will need a second vote at the Council’s next meeting on May 7.
If the second vote is approved, the proposal would require another 30 days for changes to go into effect.
The meeting is expected to draw a large number of attendees on Tuesday, and up to three hours or more of public commentary before the Council even begins to address.
Tuesday’s City Council meeting is at Anaheim City Hall and open to the public.
It will also be available on:
- Anaheim TV: a television broadcast on channel 3 for Spectrum Cable subscribers in our city.
- Anaheim.net/TV: a city webpage that plays our Anaheim TV broadcast in high-definition and can be streamed to compatible TVs and can be found here. Anaheim.net/TV also includes the option of seeing both English and Spanish subtitles.
