Brie Larson Gives a Curt Response When Asked About Captain Marvel’s Future
There was a time when Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel looked poised to lead the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) forward following the Infinity Saga.
Carol Danvers arrived late in the Infinity Saga, with Captain Marvel debuting between Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. The film was a massive success for Marvel, grossing over $1 billion at the box office.
Within the MCU, Danvers instantly became perhaps the strongest Avenger and looked like someone who could lead the team in lieu of Iron Man and Captain America.
‘The Marvels’ Bombs
Then came The Marvels. The highly anticipated sequel to Captain Marvel saw the formation of a new superhero team comprised of Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Monica Rambeau.
Despite its star-studded cast and strong pedigree, The Marvels was a true box-office bomb, eventually becoming the MCU’s lowest-grossing film ever.
Following the wreckage of The Marvels, the future of the film’s three stars seems to be hazy. Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel still seems like a star, especially with Marvel set to focus more on street-level heroes.
The future of Larson and Captain Marvel, however, remains unclear. What once seemed like a sure-fire franchise for Marvel is now shrouded in doubt.
Brie Larson Has Nothing to Say
On the red carpet at the 2024 SAG Awards, Brie Larson was asked what her future Marvel fans were. Her curt answer does not inspire confidence that we will see the intergalactic hero again soon.
“I don’t have anything to say about that,” she said, shaking her head.
Larson’s response this week was a sharp contrast from her answer to a question about Captain Marvel’s future last November.
When speaking to Entertainment Tonight in November, Larson explained that “there is still so much inside of Carol.”
“I feel like getting to be on this team just cracked her open in a way that she hadn’t been and I really loved that for her,” she said. When asked specifically about any future MCU project she will appear in, Larson responded, “I don’t want Marvel to come for me. But there is something. There is definitely something, to answer your question, that I would want to say, but I am not going to.”
While it is unlikely that Marvel will omit Carol Danvers from future iterations of the Avengers, another Captain Marvel solo outing looks unlikely at this point.
