The “Holy Trinity” Of Star Wars Memorabilia Is Heading For Auction
One of the biggest Star Wars auctions in recent memory will take place on July 29, when Movie and TV memorabilia collector John Azarian auctions off 78 of his one-of-a-kind-props.
Among the rare items from a galaxy far, far away, will be one of the last surving Stormtrooper helmets from A New Hope, Luke Skywalker’s blaster from The Empire Strikes Back and Carrie Fisher’s Snowspeeder.
Azarian purchased the Snowspeeder, used in The Empire Strikes Back, from Fisher herself, who used the money to help her mother, Debbie Reynolds, launch The Hollywood Motion Picture Museum.
The Holy Trinity
“Every one of these is something that I always dreamed of holding in my hand,” Robert Wilonsky, vice president of Heritage’s public relations and communications, told The New York Post.
“We all loved these movies when we were kids. I never imagined that I would get to see in person Luke’s Blaster or his X-win,” Wilonsky continued. “It makes these memories tangible. These are no longer just things you see on a screen. They are almost magic when you see them up close.”
Perhaps the most exciting set of items are what Heritage Auctions is calling the “Holy Trinity”. This set is made up of a trio of lightsabers from The Phantom Menace, which were wielded by Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Maul in their infamous duel.
A Massive Collection
Azarian, who is a real estate developer, has one of the world’s largest collections of superhero and sci-fi props. The collector, however, has always had a special place in his heart for Star Wars.
“Like most people of a certain age, I remember standing in line for hours to see them in theaters,” Azarian said in a release. “I spread the collection over all of the movies. And I just liked the look of the new Stormtrooper helmet, so when I saw it come up, I had to get it.”
While the Star Wars auction will be held on July 29, buyers were able to start budding online for the pieces on July 5.
