Celebrating International Cat Day with the Best Disney Cats
Everybody knows Disney for the famous mouse, but what about cats?! It’s a weird twist of fate to have a cat outshine a mouse, but channel your inner cat lady and let’s go on an adventure!
Thackery Binx
Hocus Pocus
Halloween is kicking off in Walt Disney World, so we should kick off the list with the cat from the most famous Disney Halloween movie.
Thackeray Binx, also known as just Binx, was a boy who was cursed to be a cat for hundreds of years. He was cursed to not die, so he made it his mission to prevent a virgin from lighting the black flame candle. He did not succeed…
“Take good care of Dani, Max, you’ll never know how precious she is until you lose her.” – Binx
Toulouse, Marie, Berlioz, Thomas O’Malley, and Duchess
The Aristocats
The Aristocats celebrates cat ladies! Duchess is all about class while Thomas O’Malley teaches us to relax and little.
Let’s face it, the 3 little kittens are our favorite cats in the film! They were feisty and spirited, and we can’t get enough of them.
“Ladies don’t start fights. But they can finish them.” – Marie
Lucifer
Cinderella
I don’t know why we like Lucifer. He is a horrible cat who made it his life’s mission to make the world revolve around him and make everyone miserable in the process.
Maybe we’re just jealous of his bed and ability to sleep in…
FUN FACT: Walt Disney wasn’t happy with any of the sketches for Lucifer. They just weren’t “right”.
When he was visiting with animator and friend, Ward Kimball, at his home Walt pointed to the Kimball family cat and said, “There, that’s your Lucifer.”
Cheshire Cat, Dinah
Alice in Wonderland
While at the time of Alice in Wonderland’s release it wasn’t a runaway hit, in present time, the Cheshire Cat has become a bit of a cult classic icon!
How can you not love that disappearing pink and purple cat that has a nasty habit of disappearing?
“Imagination is the only weapon at war with reality.” – Cheshire Cat
Figaro
Pinocchio
Figaro is a special little kitty that apparently has more than 9 lives! Of course we meet Figaro in Pinocchio as the sweet little kitty belonging to Geppetto, but if he looks familiar there’s a good reason.
Figaro was also Minnie Mouse’s cat since 1949, more than 50 years after Pinocchio takes place. Figaro is still purring around Minnie Mouse in Minnie’s Bow Toons, today!
Mittens
Bolt
Mittens is the pathetic alley cat that made her way as a bully in Bolt.
Even though she was mean, you can’t help but feel bad for her! She was skinny and recognized that cats and dogs are treated very differently.
Let Mittens be your PSA to go down to your local animal rescue and either volunteer or adopt a pet!
“They pretend they’re always going to be there for you, and then one day they pack up and move away and take their love with them, and leave their declawed cat to fend for herself.” – Mittens
Sergeant Tibbs
101 Dalmatians
Ah, yes. Loyal Sgt. Tibbs to the rescue in 101 Dalmatians. The Colonel wasn’t exactly firing on all cylinders to Sgt. Tibbs took the reins, and did it all with none of the glory.
Think about it: He got the pups out AND stood in front of the pups as they were cornered with a gun! Issue a medal of honor to Sgt. Tibbs, Colonel!
Oliver
Oliver and Company
Oliver is the bright eyed kitten that braves the big city alongside Billy Joel, I mean… the dog. Ok, seriously, if you’re not a huge Billy Joel fan, this movie just isn’t going to hit it out of the park for you.
Is and Am (Siamese Cats)
Lady and the Tramp
These cats seriously haunted my dreams growing up and made me afraid to ever have cats. They were crazy!
Ripping the curtains, attacking the fish, and knocking over the flowers to name a few. Not to mention that little song gets stuck in your head every time.
Snowball
Hercules
There are no small characters, only small actors, and Snowball is no exception. He is only on screen for 10 seconds and he lets out one pitiful “meow”.
Poor little fella was all burned. Was that before or after the floods? Forget it. That’s it. I’m moving to Sparta!
Yzma
The Emperor’s New Groove
She may have only been a cat for 3 minutes, but it totally counts! Yzma is one of our favorite villains in one of our favorite movies. How is it that she’s so…. So…. so old, but when she turns herself into a cat, she’s a kitten?!
Who cares? She’s adorable. Evil and adorable.
“Ha ha ha ha. I win.” – Yzma
