Is Lucasfilm Working on New Star Wars Films!?
Its been three years since The Rise of Skywalker was in cinemas and since then we haven’t heard much about other Star Wars films in the pipeline. We don know that Patty Jenkins is working on Rogue Squadron film which is scheduled to debut next year. However, according to a new post by MovieWeb there may be more projects in development for Lucasfilm.
According to the piece, plans are being discussed for a new trilogy of films set after The Rise of Skywalker that would feature a new Jedi Order. This insider scoop apparently came from Vanity Fair reporter Joanna Robinson who said that she’s heard murmurings about a trilogy being in “active development” However, she also cautioned that Lucasfilm is constantly proposing new ideas and just because it is being discussed doesn’t necessarily meant that projects will see the light of day.
This is a story that we’ll be following closely. We agree with MovieWeb that with a new Star Wars hotel slated to open next month and the Galaxy Edge lands at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World, Disney will definitely want to keep the Star Wars momentum going. Though there are projects in the pipeline, most of these like the recently announced Obi-Wan Kenobi series will be going direct to streaming.
It should also be noted that the last three Star Wars films were a mixed bag with Star Wars fans The films did well at the box office but also resulted in criticism from Star Wars die-hards.
The Disney+ strategy so far has been to fill in the gaps in the Star Wars timelines with shows like The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. Though Mandalorian has proven popular with fans and due to Baby Yoda has ushered in a new generation of Star Wars fans, the Book of Boba Fett hasn’t faired as well fans.
Perhaps Lucasfilm will wait to see how the response is to upcoming series like Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor and Ahsoka before committing to three more feature films.
