Dreamers Academy Will Be Back at Disney World for Its 15th Year March 3-6
We’ve got some exciting news! Disney Dreamers Academy, a mentorship program held at Walt Disney World Resort will be making a return to the “Most Magical Place on Earth” March 3rd- 6th. This is a momentous occassion as it marks the 15th year of broadening career awareness and creating exclusive opportunities for Black students and teens from underrepresented communities across America.
This year, participants will be treated to an array of new immersive experiences designed to foster the dreams of young leaders. This includes career-building workshops, networking opportunities, mentorship connections and more!
This year Disney Dreamer Academy is also partnering up with ESPN The Undefeated and Grammy-nominated rap artist Cordae to award scholarships to 11 students from underrepresented communities attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
For those unfamiliar, the Disney Dreamers program is a cornerstone of Disney’s commitment to supporting diverse communities through encouraging the next generation to think big and carry what they learn back with them in order to make a difference in the lives of others and in their communities.
“We are excited and honored to celebrate 15 years of Disney Dreamers Academy with this year’s class,” said Tracey D. Powell, Walt Disney World Resort Vice President and Disney Dreamers Academy executive champion. “We’ve embraced this opportunity to amplify the event, and we’re thrilled to introduce new experiences, new career programs and new mentors.”
Over the last 15 years, Disney Dreamers Academy has inspired more than 1,300 students throughout the country showing them a world of possibilities as they prepare for their futures. Participants have gone on to become doctors, nurses, engineers, pilots, journalists and more! Many have even transitioned into mentors including event speaker Princeton Parker (Class of 2011) who is NOW at Disney cast member.
Each year Disney Dreamers are chosen from thousands of applicants who must submit personal essays about their lives and dreams for the future. The students and parents/guardians are given an all-expense paid trip to Disney World for the Academy. During their stay, they’ll work side-by-side with other dreamers and hear inspirational stories from community leaders, business leaders, cast members, celebrities and more!
100 students have been selected for this year program which will teach valuable life skills including leadership skills, effective communication techniques, networking strategies and more. Also on the agenda are in-depth career workshops spanning a variety of disciplines meant to introduce the dreamers to diverse career paths within the business, entertainment and science industries just to name a few.
Past celebrity participants have included stars from the big screen and television, noted sports figures, popular musicians as well as personalities and cast members from across the Disney family including “Good Morning America,’’ ESPN, Disney Channel and the TV series “black-ish” and “grown-ish.”
