Mother and Son Take Picture At Magic Kingdom For 50th Anniversary Just Like They Did 50 Years Ago
We’ve got a feel good story for your Sunday evening thanks to Fox35 and the Kroll Family! A Florida Resident who took her son (who was an infant at the time) to the theme parks on opening day 1971 went back to the park with her son for the 50th Anniversary.
They took time to pose for the same picture in front of Cinderella Castle exactly 50 years apart!
According to the piece on Fox35, Kroll who lived in Buffalo at the time of her first visit has since moved to Lake Mary.
Kroll and her husband and then baby son visited the parks for opening day on October 1, 1971. Susan recalled to the news network, “I couldn’t even believe how beautiful it was. Everybody that was there was just fascinated with the whole place.” She continued “Everyone was very excited to be there.”
Though her son Bill was too young to remember his first visit to the magic, mom Susan recalled that Bill definitely had an exciting reaction to his surroundings. At the time, during a visit to Magic Kingdom, mom held baby for this incredible shot in front of a brand new Cinderella Castle.
Visiting the park for Disney’s 50th Anniversary weekend, with the original picture in hand, they made their way to the Magic Kingdom to relive the magic! So how did Bill feel after returning 50 years later. Susan said, “We were very excited. Bill was like a little kid coming up Main Street. He hasn’t been there in a long time. I go a lot but he doesn’t go very often. So, he said ‘I remember this, I remember that. ”
Bill added, “My first impression turning down Main Street was how beautiful the castle looked all painted and ready for the 50th. I’ve been to the parks hundreds of times — as a guest and a seasonal employee as a teenager — but I’ve never stopped being amazed at the genius, creativity, passion, and excellence that Walt started and the employees and leaders have carried on.” He added, “Even though I live in Orlando, every time I walk in the parks, I feel like I’m in another world — Walt’s world!”
Even after mother and son celebrated this massive milestone, their Disney visits show no signs of slowing. Susan, who is an annual passholder told Fox35 that she will be visiting two more times during the weeks ahead. Susan also looks forward to continue to visit the theme parks with her grandchildren and is looking for to the new Guardians of the Galaxy coaster coming to EPCOT next year.
Bill had a comment for the news network on the future of Walt Disney World as well, stating, “Despite our challenges today, we are better off than we were in 1971 and progress will continue — just as Walt said on the Carousel of Progress!”
