5 New Year’s Resolutions Inspired by Disney Characters
New Year’s Eve is less than two weeks away so it’s time to think about your 2019 resolutions. Do you want to travel more? Volunteer more? Stress less? Finally take a trip of a lifetime? Whatever it is you want to do, now is the time to start thinking about it and writing it down so you know exactly what you’re working toward.
To give you some inspiration, we asked some of Disney’s greatest characters what they had to say about their own New Year’s resolutions. (Okay, full disclosure, we didn’t really ask them, of course, but we did compile some of their most popular quotes and hopefully they will inspire you to make your own list of resolutions for next year!)
Ariel
Ariel from The Little Mermaid daydreamed often about a better life up on land. She once said, “Who says my dreams still have to stay my dreams?” Ariel dreamed big and she’s inspiring you to dream big in 2019. Your dreams of getting a diploma, taking a Disney vacation, getting out of debt — whatever it is — do not have to stay a dream. Ariel is telling you that your dreams can become a reality just by taking that first step.
Walt
The man who started it all, Walt Disney, had to start his dreams with an idea. We are sure he was told that by people around him what he was thinking of doing was impossible, but what was the response of the creative genius?
He said, “It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.” If you’re looking at 2019 with an idea that others tell you are impossible, think about this man who started this legacy we all love so much. Have fun making your ‘impossible’ dreams possible.
Belle
When the 1991 Disney movie classic Beauty and the Beast hit the screens, the world adored the young girl, Belle, an avid reader who said, “I want adventure in the great wide somewhere.” What about your travel resolutions? Are you dreaming about traveling in 2019?
Perhaps you always wanted to go to Disney World or take a trip with Adventures by Disney where you will see the Sistine Chapel or bottle feed an Irish sheep? Decide to finally enjoy your adventure in the great wide somewhere, just like Belle wanted to.
Mary Poppins
Our favorite nanny, Mary Poppins, always said, “In every job that must be done, there must be an element of fun.” Are you in a job that you dread and you want to make a change? What are you waiting for? Are you afraid?
Not sure of how to start? While some of us have to work regardless of the job, if you have the opportunity to move to something that you’ll enjoy more, try it. Mary Poppins had it right that our jobs don’t have to be arduous. They can be fun — and magical if you’re Mary Poppins.
Pooh
And last, but not least by a long shot, Winnie the Pooh is stuffed with fluff and thinks that he is a bear of very little brain, but sometimes he just says the right thing we need to hear. This gem, “People say nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day,” is something we all need to take heed to.
Why? Because sometimes our resolutions do not have to be about doing anything. Sometimes our resolutions can just be about enjoying doing more of nothing. Life is stressful. Relax and take time to do what you want to do, even if that means doing nothing.
Happy New Year!
