TSA Mask Mandate Extended Through September 13
As the world continues to move through the COVID-19 pandemic, we are seeing daily changes around guidelines for mask usage. While some policies are being relaxed, there has been an extension of the federal TSA mask mandate. Travelers planning to arrive to a Disney destination via commercial air travel, rail system or buses shouldn’t throw away their masks just yet.
TSA Mask Mandate Extends to September 13
A quote in the press release from Darby LaJoye, the Senior Official Performing the Duties of the TSA Administrator explains. “The federal mask requirement throughout the transportation system seeks to minimize the spread of Covid-19 on public transportation.”
Exemptions and Penalties Related to the TSA Mask Mandate Remain Unchanged
The press release further clarifies that exemptions for children under the age of 2 and persons with certain disabilities will continue. The civil penalties for non compliance will also stay the same.
It is worth noting that Disney’s policy differs from the TSA. While children under 2 are not required to wear masks, Disney makes no exceptions for any other reason.
Praise and Frustration for the Extension
Travel Weekly shared that the US Travel Association, Airports Council International-North America and the Air Line Pilots Association agreed with the extension. In the article, Tori Emerson Barnes, the U.S. Travel executive vice president for public affairs and policy elaborates. “The universal wearing of masks in the travel environment is both an effective safeguard against spreading the virus and boosts public confidence in traveling.”
It will be interesting to see how the feedback on the TSA Mask Mandate evolves as the CDC continues to issue updated guidelines.
The Mask Debate Continues
Regardless of your personal beliefs, when and where you are required to wear a mask will continue to change. Just recently, Walt Disney World began to relax their mask mandate. Guests may now remove their masks while taking photos. Just today, Governor Ron deSantis announced that he has suspended all local COVID orders will be effective immediately. We have yet to see how that will effect the policies at Walt Disney World. Stay tuned to MickeyBlog for all the information you need to know!
