How Did ‘Bluey’ Do This Week?
The Walt Disney Company savored a big week in the previous batch of streaming ratings.
Alas, the company fell back a bit on the latest charts, but there’s a pleasant surprise on Hulu.

Really, you all only care about one thing, though. How did Bluey do this week? Let’s find out!
About This Week’s Charts
Disney enjoyed arguably its best week ever last time. For the week of May 13th through May 19th, 2024, several programs charted.
In fact, Disney held two of the top four spots overall and dominated one chart in particular, the Acquired list.

So, I figured that Disney+ and Hulu would suffer a bit of a step back this time, as you cannot keep Netflix down forever.
Sure enough, that’s mostly what happened, with Netflix’s Bridgerton claiming the top spot on the streaming charts.

IMDB
From May 20th through May 26th, fans watched 2.19 billion minutes of Bridgerton, giving it an easy win for the week.
Disney once again held a claim to two of the top spots, though.

Grey’s Anatomy, which simultaneously streams on Hulu and Netflix, earned 1.103 billion viewer minutes.
Bluey slotted just behind it with 1.071 billion minutes, which is down slightly from 1.119 billion last time.

With minisodes coming soon, the show may recover a bit. Of course, that’s only a small piece of the puzzle.
With many schools ending soon – remember that this week’s charts only count through May 26th – kids will flock to Bluey.

Of course, if the children second-screen the program rather than watch it on a television, it won’t count toward the Nielsen ratings.
Nielsen doesn’t appear inclined to fix this gaping loophole in the system, which hurts any program that skews younger.

Suffice to say that Bluey skews VERY young. But on the bright side, Bluey beat Evil again this week!
The Paramount+ series managed 719 million minutes, which is excellent for the supernatural genre, but Evil may never conquer Bluey!

I apologize for bringing this up again. I’m just amused by a harmless show like Bluey is in competition with something literally named Evil.
Hulu and the Acquired Chart
Since Nielsen corrected a previous calculating error, Hulu has dominated one chart in particular.
The Acquired chart reflects every streaming title that’s not an Original release.

In other words, this list covers 99.99 percent of all the streaming content that we’d previously called television programming.
A streaming service needs to perform well on the Acquired chart. Otherwise, people simply aren’t watching the service.

Since Disney owns Hulu, the recent change has proven a gleeful turn of events.
For the week in question, Hulu locked up half the top ten and three of the top five.

Hulu and Disney+ pins
Also, a Disney+ series finished in the top five as well, giving Disney programs 80 percent of them.
You already know the top two, which were Grey’s Anatomy and Bluey.

Another duo has become a staple on the Acquired chart. It’s two linchpins of Fox’s Animation Domination, Bob’s Burgers and Family Guy.
For this week, Bob’s Burgers claimed 742 million viewer minutes, while Family Guy fell just behind it at 724 million.

Then, we have the surprise entry of the past couple of weeks, Reba.
The long-forgotten sitcom is enjoying a renaissance right now, with 629 million viewer minutes on streaming.

Carrie Underwood, Dolly Parton, Reba McEntire
I’ll level with you that Nielsen’s streaming ratings don’t always make sense, but this one’s a definite peculiarity.
More popular shows like The Big Bang Theory, The Simpsons, and Friends rarely chart, yet Reba (?!) has been here three straight weeks.

Hulu’s other sustained hit is Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, which gained another 538 million this week.
So, this was another great week overall for Disney’s streaming content on the Acquired chart.
The Other Hits
Disney had two other titles that made one of the charts this week.
The obvious one is Moana, which checked in with another 279 million viewer minutes.

Don’t think for a second that fans don’t know a sequel is coming in a few months, either!
But the surprise this week occurs on the Originals chart, which I had previously stated Disney wouldn’t rank anytime soon.

Color me surprised, as something snuck into the Top 10 at number ten this week.
The program is Under the Bridge, which stars Lily Gladstone, who just earned an Academy Award nomination for Killers of the Flower Moon.

This wasn’t the first week the series was available. To the contrary, it had aired seven of its eight episodes by this point.
Apparently, Under the Bridge built enough of a buzz that its viewership had an uptick as the season finale approached.

At this point, there was still one episode left, which means it might appear in next week’s ratings as well.
Either way, this was definitely an unexpected bit of good news for Disney/Hulu about a sleeper hit.
