Benedict Cumberbatch Confirms He Is Returning For ‘Avengers 5’
While the plot of the upcoming Avengers 5 remains shrouded in mystery, Marvel Studios reportedly has big plans for the film.
At one time, the fifth Avengers film was set to be titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, with a focus on Jonathan Majors’s multiversal villain. After Marvel cut ties with Majors following his domestic assault conviction, however, those plans changed.
Earlier this month, Deadline reported that Marvel wanted to have 60 returning characters appear in Avengers 5. Among the names thrown around were Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Doctor Strange, Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), and Nebula (Karen Gillian). Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange was also included on the potential roster.
Benedict Cumberbatch Teases ‘Avengers 5’
While most of the cast of Avengers 5 remains ambiguous, Benedict Cumberbatch confirmed in a recent interview on the Still Watching Netflix YouTube channel that he will be reprising his role in the film. He also revealed when production on Avengers 5 will begin.
“I’m very much looking forward to Avengers next year, which is cooking up a storm,” Cumberbatch teased.
Though it is perhaps unsurprising that Doctor Strange will return for Avengers 5, the fact that the film will begin production next year is good news. Before that happens, however, Marvel will need to find a director for the film. According to reports, the studio is eyeing Shawn Levy for the gig, though the director has yet to accept it.
Hopefully, we get more information soon.
