Disney World’s Festival of the Lion King Adds MagicBand+ Interactions
I don’t know about you, but despite the fact that I have seen the show numerous times, the Festival of the Lion King remains one of my favorite attractions at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Amazingly, the show was originally envisioned as a temporary offering in Animal Kingdom’s Camp Minnie-Mickey.

After plans for Beastly Kingdom were delayed, Disney created the temporary Camp Minnie-Mickey.
During this time, Disneyland’s Lion King Celebration parade was ending its three-year run.
Imagineers decided that they could rescue many of the puppets and floats from the parade to create a new stage show for the temporary land. Adding Broadway-style musical numbers, acrobats, and even a fire dancer to the recycled Lion King Celebration components, Festival of the Lion King was born.
An Animal Kingdom Favorite
In a testament to the minimal expectations that Disney had for the show when Festival of the Lion King opened with the rest of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, it was located in a makeshift theater that was not even enclosed.
To everyone’s surprise, however, the show was a massive success. Eventually, the theater was upgraded, and Festival of the Lion King remained one of Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s most popular attractions.
When Camp Minnie-Mickey closed in 2014, Disney relocated Festival of the Lion King to the new Harambe Theater, where the show has continued to entertain and enthrall guests ever since.

This summer, fans attending the show will see their MagicBand+ come to life with dancing lights and haptic vibrations during key moments of the Festival of the Lion King!
