Peyton Elizabeth Lee Cast As Lead In Doogie Howser Reboot for Disney+
It looks like Disney+ has found its Doogie Howser! If you’ve been following along with MickeyBlog then you’ll know that Disney is currently working on an awesome female-led version of Doogie Howser MD set in Hawaii and retitled Doogie Kameāloha, M.D! According to a piece in DEADLINE, the show has found it’s title character in Peyton Elizabeth Lee.

Lee is no stranger to Disney having previously starred as the lead in the groundbreaking show Andi Mack as well as in the recent Disney+ movie Secret Society of Second Born Royals.
As we previously reported, the half-hour dramedy is the creation of Kourtney Kang (How I Met Your Mother and Fresh Off the Boat.) Set in present-day Hawaii, Doogie Kameāloha, M.D. follows Lahela “Doogie” Kameāloha (Lee), a 16-year-old mixed-race girl who juggles a budding medical career and life as a teenager.

Though no further casting announcements have been made, we do know that rounding out the characters will be Lahela’s spitfire Irish mother (who also serves as her supervisor at the hospital) as well as her father a Hawaiian local who struggles with the fact that his daughter is growing up.

The original Doogie Howser M.D. ran from 1989- 1993 and starred Harris as a teenage doctor who had to balance practicing medicine with the everyday problems of teenage life. The series was created by legendary showrunners Steven Bochco and David E. Kelley. Bochco’s widow Dayna Bochco’s along with son Jesse Bochco will serve as executive producers for the show along with Kang, Jake Kasdan and Melvin Mar.
