The Disney Parks Honor Fallen Military Heroes on Memorial Day 2024
On this Memorial Day 2024, The Walt Disney Company took special care to remember and pay tribute to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
Disney kicked off Memorial Day week by surprising 100 Sailors in Marines in port for Los Angeles Fleet Week, with a day at Disneyland.
The Sailors and Marines not only enjoyed time at Disneyland Park but they were also celebrated with a special march down Main Street, U.S.A.
Afterward, they participated in a special Flag Retreat ceremony before getting to enjoy the rest of their day in the park. A great time was had by all!
Missing Hero Tables
As in years past, one way that the Disney Parks are paying tribute to our fallen military service members is through Missing Hero tables at select locations in Disneyland Resort and backstage locations at Walt Disney World.
These special tables are steeped in tradition and represent the emotions we feel for those who never returned home. Here are some of the notable features:
– The table is set for one, symbolizing the frailty of one isolated prisoner
– A slice of lemon on the bread plate reminds us of the bitter fate of those who will never return.
– A pinch of salt symbolizes the tears endured by those who have sacrificed all.
– An inverted glass is symbolic of those who cannot toast with us at this time.
– The empty chair reminds us they are no longer with us.
At Disneyland the Missing Hero tables an be found at Tiana’s Palace, the Blue Bayou and at resort hotels. At Walt Disney World, they are located backstage.
Remembering Out Fallen Heroes
“Today and every day, it is important to remember and honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice,” Jenn O’Rourke, Disney Institute business transformation manager and co-chair of the SALUTE employee resource group in Florida.
“Growing up as the daughter of a 20+ year retired Navy veteran and serving in the Air Force myself, I think we all know families who have lost someone to military-connected service. We honor those families’ dedication to our nation as well. That support means the world to me as a service member. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.”
So please, take some time out of your day today to remember those who gave all and the families they left behind.
