The CFTOD Is Considering Investing $100M in Disney World’s Roads
Just months after The Walt Disney Company and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis reached a detente, the DeSantis-appointed Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD) seems ready to play ball with Walt Disney World.
The CFTOD is set to consider a nearly $100 million plan to upgrade bridges and roads at Disney World.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, the plan would see improvements on World Drive North and Western Way as well as funds allocated to replace infrastructure, resurface roads, and improve interchanges.

“It’s great we are able to take a positive step,” said Charbel Barakat, acting chairman of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District’s Board of Supervisors.
Peace Between Disney and DeSantis
The new investment in infrastructure would come as Disney prepares to invest billions of dollars in Walt Disney World.
Six months ago, news that the CFTOD would even consider a Disney-friendly bill would have been unthinkable.

Since that time, however, Disney has agreed to suspend its lawsuit against DeSantis and the CFTOD and accept the dissolution of the Reedy Creek Improvement District.
The decision came after the special district board replaced former administrator Glen Gilzean and Board Chairman Martin Garcia with Stephanie Kopelousos and Craig Mateer. Both new additions to the board are seen as relatively Disney-friendly.

For now, at least, it looks like the political battles over the last two years are water under the bridge, and Disney and the CFTOD are ready to work together to build a better Florida.
