The MCU’s X-Men Film Has Found Its Screenwriter
Season 1 of X-Men ’97 may have wrapped up on Disney+ last week, but Marvel Studios is just getting started with the iconic mutant team.
So far in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), the X-Men and mutants, in general, have been limited to brief cameos and small moments.
That will soon change, however, when the X-Men make their official MCU debut.
The X-Men Find Their Scribe
A new report from Deadline says that screenwriter Michael Lesslie is in negotiations to pen the first MCU X-Men movie, though the project is still early in development.
We have previously reported that Marvel Studio’s X-Men film was one of the first projects to open up following last year’s WGA strike. According to Deadline, after weighing their options, Marvel settled on Lesslie, who is perhaps best known for writing Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.
While the project is still early in development and does not have a director or any cast, the latest development is a milestone for the X-Men.
‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ May Lay the Foundation
Outside of X-Men ’97, the iconic mutant team will also play a major role in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine. With Hugh Jackman set to reprise his iconic role as Wolverine and the film promising to bridge the gap between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the 20th Century Fox X-Men universe, the foundation for the MCU’s X-Men could easily be laid.
Between The Fantastic Four and the X-Men, the MCU is set to get an injection of new life in the next couple of years. While we don’t know how it will play out, one thing is clear- it is an exciting time to be a Marvel fan.
