Marvel’s ‘Fantastic Four’ Casts John Malkovich
The Marvel Cinematic Universe will introduce Marvel’s First Family next year.
Fantastic Four will debut in theaters on July 25th, 2025, and it’s a significant project.
Matt Shakman, the director of WandaVision, will helm Fantastic Four, which is a huge risk for Marvel.
To date, Shakman’s only film, Cut Bank, cost only $5 million to produce…and earned less than $300,000.
However, that 2014 release has proven beneficial in that Shakman made a friend.
Ten years later, Shakman will reunite with one of the co-stars of Cut Bank, John Malkovich, in Fantastic Four.
Yes, folks, John Malkovich is joining the MCU!
Fantastic Four Casts John Malkovich
If you’re unfamiliar with John Malkovich, you’re probably relatively young and not much of a cinephile.
I say this because Malkovich is a seminal figure in Hollywood, so much so that director Spike Jonze once made a film called Being John Malkovich.
Hilariously, Malkovich wasn’t the star of the film that featured his own name. Instead, Cameron Diaz would enter the actor’s brain and puppeteer him.
At one point in his career, Malkovich was that iconic. Nowadays, he takes work that interests him.
Obviously, Shakman and Malkovich made a connection on the set of Cut Bank, and now they’ll reunite.
As is often the case with Marvel titles, we have no idea whom Malkovich will portray, but many are hoping it’s the Puppet Master.
The symmetry of that would be phenomenal for Malkovich. But the one role we know he won’t be playing is Galactus.
The MCU Finds Its Galactus
Have you ever watched a horror movie called The Witch? It’s the one with the billy goat named Black Phillip.
You either know what that means, or you don’t. But The Witch introduced the world to Anya Taylor-Joy.
The actor who portrayed her father in that film was Ralph Ineson, an English actor who first became famous in the original version of The Office.
Ineson has developed quite a career by playing the villain in several films, including 2021’s The Green Knight.
In that film, Ineson portrayed…The Green Knight. He was also the Death Eater, Amycus Carrow, in some Harry Potter movies.
I don’t want to say Ineson is typecast, but his thick accent makes him an ideal heavy, and he’ll get to flex that muscle again in Fantastic Four.
Shakman has cast Ineson to portray the world-eater himself, Galactus, in Fantastic Four.
Those of you who have seen Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer are already familiar with Galactus.
In the comics, Galactus sometimes takes on a vaguely human form. At other times, it’s more of an interstellar storm cloud.
With his voice and physical presence, Ineson could pull off either, and that’s why he’s Galactus.
So, that takes care of the last major MCU casting for Fantastic Four, although I’m sure we’ll have a few others as filming starts soon.
