An Older, Wiser Daisy Ridley Is Ready to Return to ‘Star Wars’
It has now been one year since Daisy Ridley took the stage at the Star Wars Celebration and confirmed that she was officially returning to a galaxy far, far away.
After carrying the Skywalker Saga forward in the sequel trilogy, Ridley will return as Rey Skywalker for a film set 15 years after the events of Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker.
The next entry in the Skywalker story will see Rey attempting to fulfill her promise to Luke and rebuild the Jedi Order.
While the film is still in the early stages of development, over the last year, Ridley has professed how excited she is for the project.
Coming In With Eyes Wide-Open
In a recent interview with Empire, Ridley admitted that part of her excitement stems from the fact that she knows what she is getting herself into this time.
When Ridley debuted as Rey Skywalker in The Force Awakens, the actress had just turned 23 and was still new to the world of Hollywood. Now, she is set to return as an older, wiser Star Wars veteran.
“I suppose I feel more like I’m owning it. I suppose I owned it the first time. Basically, I’m an adult now,” she explains. “I certainly did not feel like an adult at the time. Obviously, personally, things have changed, and professionally, I’ve had lots of other experiences, and so I definitely feel like it’s a different thing this time.”
Even after all the highs and lows that came with carrying the Star Wars mantle forward, Ridley still loves the franchise.
“There’s just a lot of joy with me and these films,” she says. “Honestly, if I wasn’t excited, I wouldn’t have done it. It feels like a great thing to be a part of.”
Focusing on the Light
When deciding whether or not to return to Star Wars, Ridley focused on the Light, not the Dark side of what the franchise has meant to her.
“Why wouldn’t I [do it]? Yes, they have been divisive, but also they bring a lot of love and joy to a lot of people. It feels pretty amazing to be able to continue a character – like, can I even remember how to play her? It’s an interesting challenge as an actor to come back to something and try to figure out what’s changed for me and what’s changed for her.”
Spoken like a true Jedi.
