‘Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi’ Lands Beau Willimon As Co-Writer
While The Mandalorian & Grogu will be the next Star War films to hit theaters, Lucasfilm has a trio of movies in the pipeline behind it.
Originally announced at last year’s Star Wars Celebration, the three Star Wars films after Din Djarin hits the big screen will explore three different eras of Star Wars history.
Daisy Ridley will continue the Skywalker story in a film that sees Rey rebuilding the Jedi Order. In the New Republic era, Dave Filoni is set to bring the Mando-verse together for a cinematic event. Finally, James Mangold will bring fans back to the beginning of Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi.

The latter film will be set 25,000 years before the events of the Phantom Menace and explore the beginning of the Jedi Order and how early Force users discovered the power of the Force.
“When I first started talking to Kathy [Kennedy] about doing one of these pictures, what occurred to me was thinking about what kind of genre of movie within Star Wars I wanted to do,” Mangold said at the time. “And I thought about a biblical epic, like a Ten Commandments, about the dawning of the Force. Where did the Force come from, when did we discover it, when did we learn how to use it?”
While Mangold will be in uncharted territory for his film and surely have a lot of lore to develop, he will not have to do it alone.
Beau Willimon Joings the James Mangold Film
According to Deadline, Beau Willimon has been tapped to co-write Dawn of the Jedi with Mangold.
The screenwriter is perhaps best known to Star Wars fans for writing on Andor. The Disney+ Star Wars series was lauded for its storytelling and grittier tone. Specifically, Willimon earned an Emmy nomination for outstanding writing for a drama series for his episode titled “One Way Out.”
That episode featured one of the series’s most devastating moments — Jino Loy’s admission to Cassian that he can’t swim.
Outside of Andor, Willimon is also known as one of the key creators of House of Cards, serving as the series’s showrunner for the first four seasons. He also wrote the George Clooney drama The Ides of March and the Hulu series The First.
When Will ‘Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi’ Be Released?
