Tornado Watch Issued for Disney World as Severe Storms Threaten Area
Since Disney World is located in Florida, there’s a pretty high chance of some severe weather. Hurricanes can shut down the parks, the heat can be extreme in the summer, and thunderstorms can pop up unannounced.
It’s good to be prepared and know what weather to expect when you’re going to the parks. And, we’ve got an important update about the weather in Disney World today.
Severe Weather Headed Toward Disney World
Severe storms could possibly impact the Orlando area this afternoon due to a large storm system that’s currently moving across the Midwest and Southern United States. According to Fox 35 Orlando, there is severe storm potential from 1PM to 5PM in the Orlando metro region.
The storm has wind gusts over 60 mph and there is a chance for an isolated tornado within several miles of the beaches on the Atlantic side of the state. According to WESH, damaging high winds are the main concern and there is a lower threat for hail and isolated tornadoes.
However, there has already been a Tornado Watch issued by the National Weather Service until 5PM today. This includes Orange County, which is the main county where Disney World is located.
Orlando has also been upgraded from an “isolated” 1/5 risk for severe weather to a “scattered” 2/5 risk. Rain will begin earlier in Northern Central Florida and severe weather could develop as soon as lunchtime around Gainesville.
Even outside of the storms, there is expected to be winds up to 40 mph. This has caused a Wind Advisory to be put into place for the entire Central Florida region between 10AM and 8PM today.
In Magic Kingdom, we already saw preparations for the storm underway — the umbrellas back in Storybook Circus were tied down.
And, so were the ones in Tomorrowland.
After this storm system passes, we should see one of the last spring air masses, bringing low humidity for six days. The highs should range between 75 and 80 degrees, but then by mid-April, we can expect more humidity and highs in the almost 90s.
