Disney Reveals First Look at ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’
During The Walt Disney Company’s annual meeting today, Disney CEO Bob Iger gave fans a first look at Mufasa: The Lion King, the upcoming prequel to Disney’s live-action The Lion King.
In the first image released from the upcoming film, a young Mufasa looks out over the Pride Lands.
While the new image does not give a ton of information about the film’s plot, it does show the future king alone.
‘Mufasa: The Lion King’
Mufasa: The Lion King will bring fans back to the Pride Lands, where Rafiki tells Kiara (Simba and Nala’s daughter) the story of her grandfather. Timon and Pumbaa will also lend their commentary to the story.
“What does this young lion look like before he is who we know him as, and he is discovering his rhythm, how he conducts himself, how he engages with his community and his loved ones,” the film’s synopsis reads.
The Lion King prequel will star Aaron Pierre as Mufasa. Lion King stars Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, and John Kani will reprise their roles as Pumbaa, Timon, and Rafiki, respectively. They will be joined by Kelvin Harrison Jr. as a young Scar.
When Will ‘Mufasa’ Hit Theaters
2024 is looking to be a lighter year for Disney at the box office. Notably, the studio does not have a Star Wars, Avatar, or Marvel film scheduled for a Christmas release. Instead, Disney will turn to its Lion King franchise for that coveted spot. It will be important to the studio’s success that Mufasa delivers.
Mufasa: The Lion King will hit theaters on December 20, 2024.
