One Star Wars Fan’s Journey From Disney Store Cast Member To The Empire State Building
While Star Wars fans of all ages were amazed last week when the franchise took over the Empire State Building, for Ricardo Chorrillos, assistant store manager at Disney Store Times Square, the moment was extra special.
“I have goosebumps…we just saw Hayden Christensen light up the Empire State Building,” Ricardo said in awe. “Darth Vader himself was here today! I can’t stop smiling.”
Ricardo’s love of Star Wars stretches back to his childhood when he was awed by the films.
“I remember seeing Star Wars for the first time as a kid,” he recalled fondly. “And I was pulled to the screen, watching the spaceships and the lightsabers flash across our tiny 13-inch TV. I thought it was wonderful.”
Ricardo’s Disney Journey
Little did he know — decades later he would get a special invitation to Star Wars’ takeover of an iconic American building.
The Star Wars fan was thrilled to see the new action figures, toys, accessories, and memorabilia displayed inside the Empire State Building. Still, throughout the excitement, he was especially excited to have his daughter Lorelei by his side.
Ricardo’s Disney journey began nine years ago when he was searching for a pair of dress-up shoes for Lorelei at a Disney Store. After getting help from the nearest Cast Member, Ricardo was convinced to work at the establishment himself.
These days, Richard finds joy in leading his team of Cast Members as they help guests from around the world.
“Even if we’re just setting plush on a shelf, we make it special,” Ricardo grinned. “It’s not just about the plush; it’s about what that plush means to the guest. Whether that is a cherished memory or a favorite movie – there is a unique connection to the magic.”
Making Memories
When Ricardo got the opportunity to attend the exclusive celebration in the heart of New York City, he knew just who he wanted to take — Lorelei.
Over the years, Richardo and his family have made memories of attending Star Wars movie screenings and even visited Walt Disney World in matching Star Wars outfits.
“When I learned I could bring Lorelei, I immediately started wondering what she would want to wear,” Ricardo explained.
“Would she choose one of her favorite shirts or maybe a themed jacket? I knew she would be just as excited as me!” Ricardo explained.
As Star Wars continues its March to May the 4th, Ricardo’s story is just the kind of magic that Disney hopes to spread.
