In Jeremy Renner’s Darkest Days, Robert Downey Jr. Was There to Cheer Him Up
When Jeremy Renner was battling for his life in the ICU following his near-fatal snowplow accident, his Avengers teammates were by his side.
Renner has previously discussed how his spirits were lifted by seeing Anthony Mackie, Chris Evans, and Scarlet Johansson, who flew to check on Renner as he recovered in the hospital.
The actor suffered more than 30 bones and blunt chest trauma when he was run over by a 7-ton snowcat while trying to save his nephew from being hit.
Robert Downey Jr. Was There To Cheer Renner Up
In a recent interview with People, Renner revealed that when his spirits were down, he would FaceTime his Avengers co-star Robert Downey Jr., who would also lift his spirits.
“He’s like, ‘Dude, the most important thing is you look good. I don’t care how you feel, as long as you look good that’s all that matters,’” recalls Renner.
As it turns out, both Downey and his wife Susan are fans of Renner’s Paramount+ series, Mayor of Kingstown.
“He’s like, ‘You’ve got to get back to do Mayor. Because we need to see what happens,’ ” Renner says, laughing at the memory. “His ways are very heartwarming.”
“Like We Were Dating or Something”
In the end, it was the little moments of joy that helped Renner get through the dark time in his life.
“We ended up having really great chats on FaceTime like we were dating or something,” recalls Renner.
After all these years, it sounds like the Avengers are still closer than ever.
